Publishing: Article Processing Charges and Open Access

Read and Publish

Read and Publish, also called "transformative agreements", are open access (OA) models that bundle journal subscriptions and article processing charges (APC) into one contract.

These agreements are aimed to serve authors and the scholarly community by publishing in high-quality, peer-reviewed open access content.

The library continuously supports transformative agreements with publishers to provide a financially viable and comprehensive publishing options.

UTMB has several Read and Publish agreements with various journal publishers. Click the tabs to see details about publisher agreements.

Article Processing Charges

An APC, is a publishing fee for each article published and is usually charged to the author(s).  APCs are common when making a work available through open access (OA), whether it is a hybrid or full OA journal. The library does not currently fund individual title APCs but does encourage UTMB affiliates to take advantage of these APC discounts available in our Read and Publish agreements.

Author Benefits:

These agreements help UTMB authors by providing an institutional license that covers or provides a discount on publishing fees. Also, it helps to increase the visibility of your publications which can lead to higher citations and global impact of your research.
