CINAHL's PICO Search Tips & Tricks

The PICO widget is a simple tool that provides users a form for parsing their search terms according to the PICO framework, and mapping those terms.

  1. Required:  Population, Problem or Patient & Intervention
  2. Optional:  Comparison, Outcome, Time/Type
  3. Start your search using broad or simplified terms to describe a condition or intervention; in many cases, these will be automatically mapped to the more specific descriptors in each database.
  4. PICO searches should be focused on matters of therapy, diagnosis, or prognosis.

You are not able to use CINAHL Headings in this PICO Widget.

Only keywords are able to be used.

You can use Boolean operators to add more than one term to a line.

Example:  "lifestyle change*" OR "life style change*"
