Introduction

The NIH has a new scientific data sharing policy which takes effect on January 25, 2023. The policy will require all applications for NIH funding to submit a data sharing plan which the project will adhere to should the application be successful. This guide will explain the data management and sharing plan, offer resources for finding data storage repositories, discuss budgeting for data management and sharing, go over considerations related to sharing human data, and list possible limitations on data sharing.
