Hello students

  • We have created a virtual human (avatar) within a virtual simulation system called VIRTI to help our first-year medical students practice taking a medical interview.
  • The interview will take less than 15 minutes, just depending on how many questions you ask.
  • The avatar's name is Mr. Charles Francis.
  • You can choose whether to type your questions or use the microphone to ask questions.
  • Mr. Francis is coming to see you in a clinic setting.

You can access him by:

  1. Please make sure you are using a desktop or laptop computer to complete your simulation. Please don’t use a smart tablet or mobile device. Also, please ensure your device has an external or internal microphone, and your volume is turned up to hear the patient.
  2. Log in to Virti using your UTMB email and password (that you created with Virti) by going to https://app.virti.com/login
  3. Once logged in, select “My Virtual Humans” on the left side of your screen. From here, you will see your patient, Charles Francis.
  4. Once you start the session, you will have 20 minutes to complete it. However, you can complete the encounter as many times as you wish.
  5. When the time is up, or you decide to end the session, a performance summary will be provided immediately following the encounter. Please note that each performance category will have a drop-down menu you can click for additional feedback. It will also provide feedback on any objectives not completed. You can also log back into Virti to see your summary results under “My Profile”.

Once you have completed the interview, go to My Profile-->Virtual Humans-->Click on the Icon in the “Log” column

  • There, you should be able to download a transcript of your interview. Please upload this to Blackboard and take a copy with you to your small group session on Thursday 8/3
  • Based on the information you obtained during this virtual interview, prepare a brief (2-3 minute) oral presentation in the SOAP format, which you will present to your facilitator during the small group session for feedback.
  • How to present in SOAP format:
