How to Create a Poster

How to Find Free Images on the Internet

Hint: You may need to also search synonyms (e.g. Volkswagen Beetle, VW Beetle, VW Bug)

Using Google Images to find images that may be free to use and/or modify.

  1. Go to Google Images: http://images.google.com/ and perform a search
  2. Below the search bar, click on "Tools" 
    1. Click on Advanced Search 
  3. Fill in the search box with your search terms
    1. In the Usage Rights section, change the pull-down menu to:
      • Creative Commons Licenses (Free to use but require credit to creator)
      • Commercial and Other Licenses (Both free and paid)

Using Flickr Advanced Search:

  1. Go to Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/
  2. Click the Search icon and perform a search or leave it blank and hit enter arrow
  3. Click the Advanced Search icon 
    • left-hand side on the window 
  4. Click "Any License" to open the drop-down menu
  5. Select "All Creative Commons"
    • Modifications allowed means you can adapt or build upon the content 

Using Creative Commons:

  1. Go to Creative Commons search page: http://search.creativecommons.org/
  2. Fill in the search box with your search terms.
  3. Below the search box, remove the check mark next to "use for commercial purpose".
    • Make sure there is a check mark next to "modify or adapt".
  4. You will see tabs for images and audio
  5. Select "images" 
  6. Select image
    • "Get this image" 
    • From there it will take you to the image source where you can download it
