CINAHL

From the CINAHL search page -  Exporting over 50 articles

  1. In your search results, select references by clicking the check box next to the article number.
  2. Choose the down arrow
  3. Click Export Results (Up to 25,000)
  4. Enter your email address and select RIS format
  5. Click Send
  6. An email will be sent.  Click Download Metadata.  
  7. An RIS file will be downloaded (most likely to your downloads folder). You may see it in the bottom of your browser, depending on which browser you use.

From the CINAHL search page - Exporting 50 articles or less

  1. In your search results, select references by clicking the tab on the right side of the articles information. 
  2. This takes the article to the Saved tab on the left panel.  You can only export 50 at one time in the Saved tab.
  3. Choose which articles you want.
  4. Then click the Export button.  
  5. Choose Export in RIS format.
  6. An RIS file will be downloaded (most likely to your downloads folder).  You may see it in the bottom of your browser, depending on which browser you use. 

PubMed

From the PubMed search results:

  1. Select references by clicking checks next to the desired references.
  2. Click "Send to:
    Select Citation Manager
    Click Create File. 
  3. An .nbib file will be downloaded (most likely to your downloads folder) You may see it in the bottom of your browser, depending on which browser you use.

To import into EndNote Basic:

  1. After logging into EndNote Basic, click the Collect tab
  2. Select Import References
  3. Choose File: Navigate to the saved .nbib file on your computer and select it
    Import Option:  PubMed (NLM)
    To: Choose which group (folder) you want the references to save to
  4. Click Import.

To import into Zotero: 

  1. After logging into Zotero online library, click the Import from a File Icon
  2. Choose File: Navigate to the saved .nbib file on your computer and select it

To import into Mendeley:

Mendeley does not currently support the .nbib file type, so you will need to download Mendeley's Web Importer Browser Extension to get results from a PubMed search into your Mendeley library. More information can be found on the guide page

Ovid Medline

From the Ovid Medline search results -

  1. Select references by clicking checks next to the desired references.
  2. Click Export from Ovid's Results tool bar (at the top and bottom of the results page).
  3. On the Export Citations screen:
    ​Format: RIS
    Fields: Citation, Abtract is default. Consider changing to Complete Reference or Citation, Abstract, Subject Headings
    Include: Keep check next to Link to External Resolver.
  4. Click Export 
  5. An RIS file will be downloaded (most likely to your downloads folder). You may see it in the bottom of your browser, depending on which browser you use.
