Patient #1: Michael James - Aortic Stenosis

  1. Describe the changes in the myocardium and cardiac chambers that predispose to arrhythmias.
  2. Explain the physiologic response and development of symptoms with aortic valve pathologies.
  3. Describe the natural history of aortic stenosis and its complications.
  4. Discuss the effects of Digoxin and the mechanisms of toxicity.

Patient #2: Vail - Mitral Stenosis

  1. Elicit a focused H & P (in real time).
  2. Integrate cardiovascular and pulmonary symptomatology into a reasonable differential diagnosis.
  3. Describe the physiology and pathophysiology of hemoptysis.
  4. Use the knowledge of pharmacology to describe the rationale for using (or not using) the following drugs: Diuretics, Beta-blockers, ACE-inhibitors/ARBs
  5. Describe intra-cardiac pressures as presented from the Swan-Ganz catheter.
