Artifacts

Artifacts held in the Blocker Collections include:

  • Approximately 100 microscopes documenting the development of microscopy from the 18th century through the 20th century.  This collection includes microscopes belonging to the first faculty of UTMB as well as Louis Pasteur and Sir Alexander Fleming.
  • A variety of over-the-counter drugs from the early 20th century: painkillers, laxatives, cough syrups, ointments, etc.  This collection also includes assorted medicine chests and cases from the 19th century.
  • Surgical instruments and other medical tools dating to the Roman period.
  • Miscellaneous artifacts: examination tables and furniture, crutches, busts and statues, x-ray equipment, etc.
