Academic Technology Center

The Academic Technology Center (ATC) supports the design and development of multimedia instructional material for a web-based environment.

Blocker Collections

A significant collection in the history of the biomedical sciences.

Book Renewals & Fines

Books (Main Collection, 4th floor) = 30-day checkout period

Books (Reserve and Reserve Core, 2nd floor) = 2-hour checkout period

Journals (3rd floor) = 2-week checkout period

Fines = $1.00 per day per item

To renew or review checkouts and fines, use the Renew Books link and:

1. Enter your Letter + Badge Number
     P - Students (P000099999)
     C - Employees (C99999)
     S - Shriners Hospital
     X -  Visitors
2. Enter your Last Name
3. Click the Log in button.

Note: Renewals may be denied if you have outstanding fines or another client has requested the item.

Library Classes

The Library offers free classes covering database searching and other library resources. Face-to-face classes are held in the Carruth Room (room 2.233 on the second floor in the library), unless otherwise indicated. Online classes are conducted using Microsoft Lync (a meeting invitation will be sent after your registration is received).

Customized classes are available if your training needs cannot be met by the regular class schedule. Contact the Reference Department to arrange a special session.

ILLiad (Document Delivery Service)

Use ILLiad to request articles from our library or articles/books not available at our library. This service is free but limited to UTMB faculty, staff and students. Log in to ILLiad with your UTMB email username and password.

Literature Searching

Librarians use their expertise to select the right database and generate a list of references and abstracts (when available) tailored to your specific interests.  If the topic is one of ongoing interest, the search can be set up as an alert so that regular updates are sent automatically.

Although 24 hours is the departmental standard for finishing searches, most searches are started immediately and sent as soon as completed. Actual times may vary depending on time of receipt, staff availability, system availability and the complexity of the search(es).

Expert search assistance is also available for those wishing to do their own searches.  Reference Librarians will:

  • help you choose the right resources for your search
  • work with you to fine-tune your search strategies
  • assist you in locating print and other resources
  • answer other information-related questions.
  • be your advocate for issues relating to the library's collection
  • help you find and use key bibliographic tools in your area
  • See the Class Schedule for searching instruction

Testing Services

Testing Centers are available for computerized or print examinations, as well as large group instruction.

Printing, Photocopying & Scanning

Printers and photocopier/scanners are located on the 2nd floor of the Library

Printer/photocopier/scanners are also available in the Jamail Student Center (Bldg. 14) and the Learning Resource Center (Rm. 1.800, Bldg. 57, Schools of Health Professions and Nursing). 

The same copy card operates all types of equipment. Purchase or add value to copy cards at the Access Services Desk on the 2nd floor of the Library.

Privileges at Other Libraries

The Moody Medical Library participates in reciprocal borrowing privileges among cardholders of the member libraries.

Suggest a Purchase

The Library welcomes suggestions for book and journal purchases, however, Library purchases are dependent on appropriateness for the collection(s) and funds available.

Course Reserves

Reserve materials chosen by faculty (for students in their classes) may be placed on reserve in the Library, 2nd floor Access Services. Please bring a completed form to the 2nd floor Access Services Desk.
